    Visit to InterVarsity Press

    June 23, 2009 // No Comments »

    IMG_3597Over the weekend, I was in Chicago visiting a friend. Just so happens that Chicago is home to InterVarsity Press, publisher of J.I. Packer’s Knowing God, Dallas Willard’s Hearing God, and, yes, Yours Truly’s Losing God. (That’s right: Packer knows him, Willard hears him, and I lose him.)

    I finally met the people who helped take Losing God from manuscript to published book–chiefly my editor, Dave Zimmerman, and my copyeditor, Elaina Whittenhall.

    If you’d like to see more pictures from my visit, click here for my Facebook photo albums. You might have to add me as a friend in order to see them.

    Read “When Answers Aren’t Enough” on your iPhone or iPod touch

    May 25, 2009 // No Comments »

    kindle-iphone-screenshotGood news for iPhone and iPod touch owners: You don’t need a Kindle device to read the Kindle edition of When Answers Aren’t Enough.

    You can download the FREE Kindle for iPhone application at Apple’s online app store. (Did I mention it was free?) Click here for that. Then go here for the Kindle edition of When Answers Aren’t Enough–not free, but worth the money, I must say.

    If you don’t own an iPhone or iPod touch, could you tell a friend who does?

    Thanks for helping spread the word. And I’ll let you know if/when Losing God becomes available for Kindle as well.

    Matt Rogers on the Bob Dutko Show, Friday, May 15

    May 13, 2009 // No Comments »

    This Friday, May 15, beginning around 1:00PM Eastern, I will be giving a 30-minute radio interview on the Bob Dutko Show on WMUZ out of Detroit. I’ll be talking about Losing God. You can listen live at WMUZ.com. Bob Dutko’s bio says,

    On Mother’s Day 2002, Bob’s oldest child and only daughter, Colleen suddenly and unexpectedly collapsed in his arms and died instantly for no explained reason at age 17. Bob has used this tragedy to remind Christians that our hope and trust must always be in God alone, that God is sovereign, that our faith in Him can not be shaken by circumstances and that in good times or bad, He will never leave us or forsake us.

    This should be an encouraging time for anyone who’s been through doubt and depression, whatever the cause. I hope you can listen this Friday at 1:00PM.

    “Losing God” in another language

    April 27, 2009 // No Comments »

    facebook-10708I received word today from InterVarsity Press that Losing God soon will be translated into Korean. Publishers often sell translation rights to other publishers around the world, and Hanuel Christian Book House has acquired the rights to publish a Korean edition of Losing God

    My editor, Dave Zimmerman, says, “The Koreans make great books; it’s bound to be beautiful.”

    Translations take eighteen months to two years to complete and print, so I guess that means in late 2010 or early 2011 you’ll be able to read Losing God in another language!

    “When Answers” hits #1 on Amazon’s Christian Living list

    March 17, 2009 // 2 Comments »

    Wow, what a day! Thank you to everyone who responded to our April 1 Amazon.com campaign. The result was phenomenal:

    • #1 in the Christian Living category
    • #2 in the Theology category
    • #122 in the Books category

    What does this mean? Well, out of the hundreds of thousands of books available on Amazon.com, we reached an overall ranking on April 1 of 122. Out of the thousands of books classified as “Christian Living,” we hit #1. Yes, that’s #1. And #2 in “Theology.” Simply amazing.

    Of course, more important than rankings and sales is the hope this book will bring to readers. And thanks to you, many more people now know about When Answers Aren’t Enough because of the visibility you helped give it. I can’t say thanks enough.

    Please continue to pray for the book to spread, and if you meant to order it on April 1 but forgot, no worries. Swing on over to Amazon.com.

    God bless, and thanks again for making April 1 so special.

    Philip Yancey endorses When Answers Aren’t Enough

    // No Comments »

    Bestselling author Philip Yancey, who for more than 30 years has written about the problem of pain and the questions of the Christian faith, has endorsed When Answers Aren’t Enough.

    Yancey says, “No campus pastor should have to face the questions Matt Rogers did after the shooting at his school, Virginia Tech. Then again, can any of us avoid these very questions? Tempered by tragedy, Matt explores both doubt and hope, and emerges with compassionate wisdom.”

    I’ve been a fan of Philip Yancey’s writing ever since I discovered his book Disappointment with God. That was ten years ago. My admiration for him and his work has only grown in the decade since, and it is a deep honor to have him endorse my first book.

    Losing God moves into copy-editing phase

    // No Comments »

    My second book, Losing God: Clinging to Faith through Doubt and Depression, has entered the phase of the publishing process known as copyediting. That means major writing and revising has ended and the book’s finer details are now coming together. What exactly all those details are, beats me. Even after going through the process once, I’m not sure what all copyediting entails. But I know it entails a lot, and that copyeditors are amazing, wonderful people who make writers look way better than they really are. I also know this is where some poor soul (in this case, Elaina Whittenhal at InterVarsity Press) must contend with my grammar. She’ll go sentence by sentence looking for problems missed during writing and revising.

    Losing God: Clinging to Faith through Doubt and Depression releases November 2008 from InterVarsity Press.
